What will I learn with a Pastoral Ministry Degree?
Jesus Christ has chosen to continue His work on Earth through the local church. The Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry degree at Barclay College is designed for the person answering the Good Shepherd’s call to church ministry and administration [John 10]. Those completing the program obtain the primary qualifications for local and global service as 21st-century ministry frontrunners and equippers in the Ascension gifts of Jesus Christ [Ephesians 4:11], commonly referred to as “the Five-fold ministry of the Church.
When you complete the Pastoral Ministry degree at Barclay College, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the basic and essential qualifications for serving as a pastor in a local church.
- Build a foundation for a lifetime of developing ministerial skills.
- Understand your call into ministry and explain the local church’s biblical purpose and the pastor’s role within the local church setting.
- Use lessons from church history and current methods of pastoral ministry to develop a sound philosophy of local church ministry, work ethic, and how to conduct leadership recruitment, equipping, and mobilization.
- Gain knowledge on how to discern God’s vision for the future of a local church, including vision development, communication, and mobilization of a local congregation needed for vision implementation.
- Accurately interpret Scripture, using sound methodology and a familiarity with Old Testament Hebrew and New Testament Greek languages and study resources.
- Craft and deliver sermons that help listeners apply biblical principles to the problems and possibilities they face in the 21st century.
- Conduct specialized worship ceremonies such as weddings, funerals, dedications, baptism, communion, and baby dedications.
- Articulate a clear philosophy and ethics for pastoral ministry.
