Race to the Finish
The unfolding of the Nursing program at Barclay College is generating high energy and excitement, particularly within the medical community of Southwest Kansas. The prospect of training nursing students in our own backyard is not just a significant milestone, but also a testament to our commitment to local healthcare. The program, which fulfills the requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, is a significant first step in the area. Moreover, nurses at Barclay College will be trained from a Christian, faith-based perspective that embraces our Quaker distinctive for the sanctity of life and respect for all humankind. We are more than practitioners; we are ministers of the Gospel.
Nursing Program Grows
Fall 2024 saw the Nursing program take a number of positive steps. Enrollment nearly doubled from Fall 2023. The possibility of a new nursing facility that would allow us to triple our enrollment would boost the program and provide skilled nurses for medical facilities in Southwest Kansas. Kelsey Crossman, MSN/ED., RN joined our team this fall as our recruiter for the Nursing program. Kelsey is also credentialed to direct our Allied Health program, which includes CNA certification and training. Each year brings a new phase to the Nursing program and we welcome the challenge to bring faith and healing together in the lives and skills of our students.
The Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) allows each nursing program in Kansas a limited number of students. During their initial visit to the Barclay College campus, we shared our plans for a new nursing facility with the state director. When asked how the facility would increase our allotted number, she observed that it could potentially triple our current number of 18 students, opening up new opportunities for growth and development.
With that in sight, Barclay College and the Board of Trustees launched a comprehensive campaign to achieve this goal. The campaign, which will go public this fall, has the theme “Race to the Finish!”
Robert and Anita Ellis donated a generous lead gift to initiate a new nursing facility.
The campaign has two parts; 1) the new nursing facility and 2) the Full-Tuition Scholarship. The total goal is $8 million, and currently, over half of the funds have been raised in cash and pledges.
As we embark on this campaign, we invite you to be a part of our journey. Your support is crucial as we Race to the Finish.
